Jenny. Freaking. Lawson. Oh how I adore her. This is the second book of hers I have read. I also at one time was a daily reader of her blog: The Bloggess. I’m going to need to start reading it again.
She’s hilarious. Real. Raw. Ridiculous. Obsessed with weird things. And of course, a fabulous story teller. I previously read her book “Let’s Pretend This Never Happened”, and that was when I was hooked on her. I don’t even remember where I found that book, but I then discovered her blog, and the rest is history. I wanted a giant metal chicken for YEARS!
This is a funny book about the struggles of having a mental illness. I find Jenny hilarious, in every chapter there was another funny story. I could not stop reading. This book was a perfect read for me as I have been struggling with mental illness for most of my life.
Mental illness is not funny. But everyone deals with it in different ways. Some people make jokes and say inappropriate things. Some people do crazy things. Some people even write about it, like Jenny and I.
I have to be honest, this book is part of how I got through this dark time that I have been going through lately. Jenny if for some reason you end up reading this, thank you for being you. Thank you for being brutally honest. Thank you for getting me through my dark time with your stories, your humor, and your taxidermied animals.
I give this book 5 stars. It was perfect, in every way. I’m looking forward to reading the next book. I’m sure it will be amazing. I also have the urge to start collecting taxidermied rodents. You’ll have to read the book to find out why.
